USING MULTIMEDIA IN EDUCATION

SUMMARY OF COURSE

This 1-day workshop introduces you to the concept of using multimedia as a pathway to equal opportunity learning for personal growth, creative collaboration, and global transformation. Designed for the teacher and learner in all of us, the interactive workshop activities begin small, with BioDots and then travel backwards 40,000 years to the sound of the Didgeridoo as transmitter of culture. The experience of live sound-as-connector illustrates the potential of digital culture and multimedia to be a unifying force that could help solve some of the world’s most difficult challenges. The experience of mind mapping, scientific thinking, and media literacy shows participants how to use multimedia as a pedagogical/whole body tool to create, to think critically, and to use media to make the world a more joyful place.

• SEPUP Program, Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California at Berkeley,
  using student generated video to kick-off their Science Curriculum: “Who Infected Whom?”

• KQED Education Network: What is Media Literacy? How to Analyze Media Influence and Effects

• Live Development during the workshop of a website for access to workshop curriculum,    additional learning and reference materials, and links to other learning communities.
