Mail Services Hours of Operation:
The Mailroom (room 156) is open as follows:
7:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday
7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Friday
U.S. Mail Pickup and Delivery Times:
U.S. mail delivery occurs between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Mail is sorted and placed in the appropriate mailboxes. Mail received on Mondays and after a holiday takes longer to sort because of the volume of mail received.
Mail is picked up throughout the day. Any outgoing mail must be in the Mailroom by 3:30 p.m. to ensure adequate time for postage metering and processing.
Campus Mail:
The college mailing system is to be used for college business only.
Non-business related and personal mail should not be passed through the campus mailroom. This includes non-business related magazines and newspapers, direct sales items, personal items from outside companies, articles of clothing, etc.,. If it is not directly related to Berkeley City College it should not be sent through the campus mail.
Campus mail is sorted and dispatched as quickly as possible each workday. In order to be accepted for processing, campus mail must be enclosed in the brown inner-office mail envelopes. Do not use white envelopes as they can easily be confused with outgoing meter mail. If your department has accumulated an overstock of inner-office envelopes, or are in need of envelopes contact the mailroom at extension 5017.
The envelope address must show the name of the department, and should include the full name of the intended recipients.
Mailroom Procedures:
Personal Mail/Packages: Staff and Faculty are not to have personal mail and/or packages delivered to the Mailroom.
Extra-Large Parcels: When extra-large packages are delivered, Mailroom staff will place a notice in your mailbox and/or send an email requesting that you pick the package up.
Mail Collection: Please collect mail on a regular basis; at least once a week. Department’s should collect their mail daily.
Postage: College postage is affixed to official College business mail that is forwarded in a Berkeley City College envelope. All mailings must have an appropriate return address that identifies the originator or department.
Large Mailings: Should your office anticipate an unusually large mailing of letters, notify the mailroom staff, extension 5017, 24 hours in advance in order that adjustments are made in the work schedule to provide adequate staff to process any extraordinary request in a timely manner. If your mailing has a deadline for the U.S. Mail pick-up, please indicate this information on your requests. Only legal and absolutely essential large mailings will be sent out, due to limited funds. Fill out a Large Mailings Request Form for mailings of 100 pieces or more.
