Personal Safety and Security Services for BCC Students, Faculty and Staff

All crimes or suspected criminal activity occurring on Berkeley City College property during office hours should be immediately reported to:

 

  • call Campus Security at (510) 981-2975
  • or by dialing ext. #2975 from any campus telephone
  • or by using the “Emergency Phones” located in the classrooms and each of the restrooms on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th floor and in the restrooms located in the Atrium.
  • Call 911 for Police, Fire or Medical Emergencies (from campus phones/cell phone)

BERKELEY CITY COLLEGE BUSINESS HOURS

Berkeley City College is open to students Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The building is equipped with an alarm system that notifies the Berkeley Fire Department when unauthorized persons have entered the building.  All alarms are responded to by the Berkeley Fire Department.

 

SECURITY SERVICES AT BERKELEY CITY COLLEGE

The Peralta Community College District contracts its police services for Berkeley City College with A-1 Security Services.  The Security Officers are on duty Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Security services are provided on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. through 6:30 p.m.

On July 1, 1999, a Memorandum of Understanding was entered between Peralta Community College District regarding law enforcement responsibilities on properties owned, operated, controlled or administered by Berkeley City College in the City of Berkeley.

During regular business hours and non-hours of operation the Berkeley Police Department will have primary responsibility for the investigation of all crime occurring on Berkeley City College property in the City of Berkeley with respect to violent crimes as defined by the Cleary Act.

The Peralta Community College District has made the Blackboard Connect services available to instantly reach students, faculty, and staff in cases of major or catastrophic emergencies and as an early warning notification. With Blackboard Connect, campus leaders can send important messages within minutes via phone, text, email and social media to help ensure safety to the Peralta Community.

A-1 Security Services maintains an incident log and reports all criminal activity to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and the Director of Business and Administrative Services at Berkeley City College. This information is compiled and the report is submitting annually to General Services.

 

U.C. BERKELEY CAMPUS

If a crime happens to a Berkeley City College student who attends evening classes or Saturday classes on the U.C. Berkeley Campus, he/she should phone the U.C. Berkeley Police Department at (510) 642-3333.
