BCC to Host 5th Annual East Bay Alternative Book and Zine Fest, BCC’s Milvia Street 2014 debut, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat., Dec. 6

Berkeley City College once again will host the 5th Annual East Bay Alternative Book and Zine Fest, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat., Dec. 6 at 2050 Center St. in the college’s auditorium and atrium. BCC has hosted the fest since 2009. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Milvia Street 2014, BCC art and literary journal, has its release reading and art showing on Saturday December 6 from 12:30-2pm in the BCC Auditorium (as part of the East Bay Alternative Book and Zine Fest.). Readers include: Tamila Walker, Brad Penner, Hannah Landau, Alexa Baranov, Paul Taylor, Hannah Ryan, Roger Porter, Carla Koop, Katherine Gallagher, Wilfred Galila, GS Scott, Fred Dodsworth and others. Artists are Jessica Phrogus, Anke Van Aardenne, Nusaibah Coleman, Barry Shapiro, Beverly Rose Farrell, Renate Valencia, Wilfred Galila, June Ann Cook, Matthew Valencia, Rena Simon-Igra, Joe Doyle & Nina Cestaro.
The reading is free and includes refreshments. Journals will be available for $10 or $7 students and contributors. Come earlier and stay late to see the many zinesters and artists at the EBABZ fest (10am-5pm in the BCC Atrium). A great place to do holiday shopping that supports local artists and writers.

 

More than 100 local writers, publishers, artists and comic makers, including Punk Hostage Press, Tiny Splendor, Manic D Press, Endless Canvas, and many more, will participate. The 2014 fest will sponsor workshops on letterpress, zine making and silk-screening. Guest speakers include the Bay Area’s Janelle Hessig and Brontez Purnell illustrator and author, respectively, of The Cruising Diaries and local legend V. Vale of RE/Search publications and BCC’s Milvia Street 2014: Art and Literary Journal poets and authors will host readings from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the college’s auditorium.
