Latinx Heritage Month - Opening Celebration

When

10/12/2021
12:20 pm-1:20 pm

Event Type

Celebrated nationally from September 15 to October 15, the Latinx Heritage Month celebrates the rich cultures, histories and traditions of the more than 62 million Latinx living in the United States representing more than 20 countries across the world. Berkeley City College recognizes and elevates the histories and stories of resistance in the anniversaries of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua on September 15 as well as Mexico’s independence on September 16 and Chile’s independence on September 18th.

As part of the Latinx Heritage Month, we also recognize Día de la Raza on October 12th and Berkeley’s tradition of recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day on October 11 as a full celebration of native races and cultures that includes underscoring the narrative of resistance in the face of forced assimilation by many indigenous cultures.

Join us on October 12th during College Hour from 12:20 to 1:20 pm as we kick off the Latinx Heritage Month celebration at the Latinx Heritage Month Celebration opening. Berkeley City College President Angélica Garcia will open the celebration and we will be joined by various guests. This event will be in person at Berkeley City College’s Atrium and over Zoom. For all in person attendees, please join us for pan dulce immediately after the event. For the health and safety of all, please come with a mask that fully covers your nose and mouth. Additionally, please arrive early as you will need to complete a screening prior to entering the building. We hope to see you there!
