BCC’s first gender neutral bathroom – ACS Dept’s Prof. Leighton spearheads important change

ACS Communication Instructor, Prof. Cora Leighton, leading BCC’s Gay-Straight Alliance Club, worked with President Debbie Budd, Dean Antonio Barreiro, Director of Campus Life Mostafa Ghous, and countless staff, faculty, and  other administrators to open the campus’s first gender neutral bathroom.

This bathroom will help assist the many gender nonconforming and transgender students we have at BCC to feel safe using a bathroom– something many of us take for granted. Studies show that transgender students who have clear support in the education system are far more likely to succeed, so this is great for all of us who value student success at BCC.

The bathroom located in the Atrium level, to the right of the stairs to the exit, right by the bike parking. It is well labeled!

Thanks again to everyone who worked to make BCC a safer campus for all students.
