PCCD Communication – February 2, 2021

Dear Berkeley City College Community,

Earlier this evening, you received the February 2, 2021 PCCD Communication providing some information on the recent communication I received from the ACCJC Commission. I have received several inquiries and wanted to take a moment to offer additional clarity.

On February 1, 2021, I received an action letter from ACCJC regarding the Berkeley City College’s Special November 2020 Report. During the Commission’s January 13-15 meeting, I had the opportunity to present alongside all of the Presidents of the Peralta Colleges and our Interim Chancellor to share the corrective action the College has taken. The February 1, 2021 letter communicates the Commission’s action on the November Special report:

“Upon consideration of the information noted above, the Commission acted to Defer Action. The accredited status of the institution remains unchanged and continues during the Probation period. The college is currently undergoing comprehensive review with a team visit scheduled in Spring 2021. A decision on the college’s accredited status will take place during the Commission’s meeting scheduled June 9 – 11, 2021.”

Berkeley City College remains fully accredited during the Probation period. Our college discussions over the past months in College Roundtable, the Integrated Planning Committee, and in Leadership Cabinet have included this possible outcome. We have done much work over the past year and the culminating comprehensive site visit will serve as the time to demonstrate that the College meets the standards of accreditation. Our focus as a college should remain steadfast in our preparation for the upcoming site visit March 1- 4, 2021. In my January 29, 2021 communication, I shared how we had the planning meeting with our Team Chair to prepare for this upcoming visit. The site visit will include campus forums for all to participate. We will receive continued communications from our ALO, Kuni Hay, and the Accreditation Steering Committee for our upcoming Accreditation Day and final schedule for the visit.

The upcoming College Roundtable meeting on Monday, February 8, 2021 will include this item on the agenda for additional clarification. I thank you for continuing to provide high quality teaching and learning, student support services, and remaining focused on our work at hand.

In Community,
Angélica
