Dear Berkeley City College Community,
I am pleased to announce Mr. Thomas (Tom) Rizza as our newly appointed Public Information Officer, effective December 15, 2021. Tom joins our community from ABC Channel 7 in San Francisco, where for the past seven years, he has served in roles such as an assignment editor, news writer, and multimedia journalist. He is passionate about connecting with people and telling their stories and our BCC community welcomes his strong skillset in visual storytelling.
He earned an Associate Degree in Journalism from Diablo Valley College and transferred to San Francisco State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Tom is a firm believer in the impact and power of the California Community Colleges and the myriad of opportunities they provide to students pursuing their career and academic dreams, like they did for him.
As the Public Information Officer, Tom will lead our college marketing, public relations, website development, and communication efforts. The breadth of his skillset will assist the College in pursuing communication and marketing strategies that are student-centered, use current multi-media platforms, and pull from the collective perspectives across the College.
When he’s not at work, he enjoys cooking (prior culinary student), snowboarding, collecting vinyl, going to shows, hiking and camping in his 1976 Volkswagen camper van. His office is located on the 4th floor and he can be reached at trizza@peralta.edu. I invite you to send him a welcome note.
