Dear Berkeley City College Community –
I am heartbroken to learn of the gun violence that took the lives of two brothers and Berkeley High School students and left others injured over the weekend. While we consider all BHS students as part of the BCC community, it is especially saddening to learn that one of the lives lost participated in BCC’s summer dual enrollment NOVA program. We grieve the loss of our neighbors in the Berkeley High School community, and our hearts are with their family, friends, classmates, and instructors.
Your access to care and support is important in grieving this loss. The Puente family is sending out some additional communication, as their community was directly impacted by these deaths. We will hold space for you as you process this tragedy and offer the services of our BCC Wellness Center’s team of mental health counselors.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to BCC’s administration, counselors, or fellow faculty in this time of need. One of our greatest strengths is coming together as a community to support one another during challenging times. The loss of two young lives is indeed tragic. May you hold your loved ones extra tight today.
