BCC Accreditation Status

January 27, 2022

Dear Berkeley City College Community,

I am writing to share some very important and much-anticipated news. Yesterday morning, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) informed us of their decision to remove the College from Probation status. Their action attests to the significant progress that the Peralta Community College District has made over the past several months, and the high standard that Berkeley City College continues to meet. Moreover, it is the result of the collective work of our classified professional staff members, our faculty, the administration, students, and Board of Trustees.

But even as we welcome this news and note the headway made, there is still work to be done. For now, the Commission has decided to keep all four colleges on Warning status, given that there are outstanding issues that still need to be resolved (e.g., eliminating the structural deficit, addressing audit findings, improving efficiencies, aligning Board functions). As such, we are required to submit a Follow-Up Report to address the remaining compliance requirements and deficiencies identified through fiscal monitoring by October 1, 2022. We look forward to submitting that report and moving all of the colleges to full compliance.

Angélica
