Launch a career in community health while you work and learn at the same time. Berkeley City College’s Community Health Worker Apprenticeship combines classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and professional mentorship.

4 Components of the CHW Registered Apprenticeship

1-Wage Progression: Apprentices are employees from day one, earning a salary that increases as they master new skills.
2-Portable Credential: A certification that apprentices can carry with them and use across employers and locations within an industry.
3-Classroom Instruction
1st TERM
• HUSV 510 A/B: Work Readiness Certificate
• HUSV 502A: Digital Fluency
2nd TERM
• HUSV 502B: Community Health Worker Certificate
3rd TERM
• HLTED 1: Issues in Human Health
• HUSV 121: Introduction to Social Work
4-On-the-Job Training
  1. Conduct cultural mediation among individuals and communities.
  2. Provide culturally appropriate health education.
  3. Care coordination and system navigation.
  4. Provide coaching and social support.
  5. Advocate for individuals and community.
  6. Build individual and community capacity.
  7. Provide direct services and conduct outreach.
  8. Implement individual and community assessments.
  9. Participate in evaluation and feedback.
