BCC Foundations in Data Science — Transfer-Ready, Career-Ready

Berkeley City College’s Data Science program is an interdisciplinary initiative designed to prepare students for careers and further study in one of today’s fastest-growing fields. Supported by both the Math and Computer Information Systems (CIS) departments, the program combines skills in computing and programming, statistics, and domain-specific knowledge to turn data into actionable insights. 

• Focus areas include biology, business, and computer information systems. 
• Students will learn how to collect, analyze, and visualize data to solve real-world problems in a wide range of industries. 

UC Berkeley-Aligned Curriculum 

BCC is proud to offer students a direct connection to the University of California, Berkeley’s Data Science program through: 

• Math 118, Foundations in Data Science, equivalent to UC Berkeley’s Data 8 course. 
• Ongoing development of a transfer pathway to UC Berkeley’s Data Science Major, offered through the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS). 

Students who complete Math 118 at BCC can earn transferable credit and be on track to pursue a bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley or other four-year institutions.
