Berkeley City College (BCC) has been recognized as a 2025 Pathway Champion of Transfer Equity by the Campaign for College Opportunity, earning honors in two categories:

California Community Colleges Pathway Champion of Transfer – Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) as a Percentage of All Associate Degrees Awarded, and
-
California Community College Transfer Champion for Black Students.
This statewide recognition celebrates BCC’s leadership in creating equitable pathways that help students reach their transfer and degree goals. Berkeley City College was distinguished as the top school in the state with 72% of all Associate Degrees being ADTs - guaranteeing placement into a CSU. BCC's rate of awarding ADTs to Black Students was also 72%, demonstrating that BCC shows no equity gap for Black Students earning ADTs compared to the overall rate of completion.

In recent years, BCC has aligned its academic programs with statewide reforms such as AB 705 and AB 1705, ensuring that students are placed directly into transfer-level courses and given the tools they need to succeed. The implementation of placement in transfer-level courses not only boosted outcomes in transfer to CSU, but also bears out in BCC being the #1 California community college per capita with transfers to UC Berkeley, and 5th overall among all California community college students transferring to UC Berkeley. According to a recent study by SF Chronicle, 83% of BCC transfer applicants in 2023-24 were admitted to at least one UC.
