Pre-apprenticeship Pathways: Art, Design, Media and Entertainment

EMPOWER YOUR IMAGINATION

The Multimedia Arts program at Berkeley City College helps students build the creative and technical skills needed for careers in animation, Game design, digital imaging, motion graphics, virtual production, Video Arts and web development. Through hands-on courses and portfolio development, students gain real-world experience using industry tools and techniques.

Students in the program also have access to pre-apprenticeship training opportunities offered in partnership with industry partners. These short-term programs, such as animation and visual effects bootcamps hosted on campus, are designed to help students strengthen their skills and prepare for professional opportunities.

After completing coursework or a pre-apprenticeship, students can pursue registered apprenticeships with external industry partners, such as the BRIC Foundation. BRIC pioneered the first federally and state-recognized registered apprenticeship program for Animation, VFX & Gaming, creating an alternative pathway to industry careers. BRIC provides Pre-Apprenticeship course alignment and professional development opportunities so teachers can better prepare students for entertainment careers. BRIC’s Education programs build student readiness for industry apprenticeship through a virtual Speaker Series, bootcamps, and master classes.

These paid training programs combine on-the-job experience with additional instruction and mentorship, providing a pathway into careers in fields like animation, visual effects, game design, virtual production and production management.

Whether you're just getting started or looking to build your portfolio, Berkeley City College’s Multimedia Arts program can help you take the next step toward a creative career. If you are interested in this pathway please contact Mary Clarke-Miller, Department Chair, mclarkemiller@peralta.edu.
