What is Faculty Advising?

Faculty advising provides you with a way to connect directly with faculty in your major. Students can ask advisors about transfer options in their major, internships and career opportunities.

Why should students use Faculty Advising?

You should use faculty advising because your instructors have knowledge about your chosen major that will help you succeed with your transfer and career goals. Your instructors were once students in the major just like you!

How is Faculty Advising different from Counseling?

Counseling is an essential support for meeting registration, certificate and degree completion and transfer requirements.  Faculty Advising is focused on students who have already selected a major, are pursuing a certificate, degree or transfer in that major and are looking to learn more about opportunities and experiences within their major.

Typical questions students ask their Faculty Advisors:

  • What are the different career paths within my major?
  • What BCC classes best fit my interests within the major?
  • How are the transfer programs in my major organized at different CSU and UC campuses?
  • What internship, work experience or volunteer opportunities are available related to my major?
