The LRC hires Math/Statistics/STEM/Canvas tutors. If you intend to work in another subject, the LRC will work with you and that subject’s department, when possible, to help you find employment as a tutor.

The Learning Resources Center (LRC) focuses on holistic, student-centered learning dedicated to academic excellence, collaboration, diversity, equity, innovation and transformation of, by and for BCC community members. The LRC is here to promote student success, to provide our diverse community with educational opportunities and resources, and to transform lives.


Minimum employment criteria for all Peralta Colleges’ student workers (tutors and staff) according to Peralta Community College District Administrative Procedure 7270 Student Workers (AP7270):

  • Be admitted and enrolled as a student in the Peralta Colleges
  • Be authorized to work in the United States
  • Enrolled during the previous Spring semester in order to work as a student worker during the Summer session or enrolled in the Summer session
  • Comply with applicable District policies and procedures
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be not currently employed within the Peralta District as a short-term, temporary employee, adjunct faculty or in any other employment category, except Student Trustee
  • Pass the appropriate background check.

Minimum requirements to work as a LRC tutor:

  • Minimum of a “B” letter grade in the subject area you are interested in tutoring
  • Recommendations from your Math/Statistics/STEM instructors.

Preferred skills:

  • Exhibit thoughtful, strong, personable communication skills or be willing to learn to do so
  • Must be willing to assertively work collaboratively with students, tutors, staff, instructors and other stakeholders
  • Must show timeliness and dependability
  • Exhibit multitasking skills.

Desired skills:

  • Must show or learn how to show initiative or self-starting abilities
  • Have or develop critical thinking skills
  • Exhibit time management skills
  • Exhibit or be willing to learn how to exhibit strategizing skills.

Minimum requirements to work as a LRC staff member:

  • Minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Recommendations from previous instructors and/or supervisors.

Preferred skills:

  • Exhibit thoughtful, strong, personable communication skills or be willing to learn to do so
  • Must be willing to assertively work collaboratively with students, tutors, staff, instructors and other stakeholders
  • Must show timeliness and dependability
  • Exhibit multitasking skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and other technical skills.

Desired skills:

  • Must show or learn how to show initiative or self-starting abilities
  • Have or develop critical thinking skills
  • Exhibit time management skills
  • Exhibit or be willing to learn how to exhibit strategizing skills.

Berkeley City College’s pay rate for student workers/tutors is the local minimum wage, which will be $16.07/hour as of July 1, 2020 in Berkeley, California.
