ACCJC Site Visit Concluded – March 5, 2021

March 5, 2021

We have just concluded the College’s site visit from March 1 – March 4, 2021, as part of our comprehensive review and ACCJC processes. Led by Team Chair, Dr. Keith Curry, the visiting team members had the chance to experience our BCC Pride throughout the week, beginning with our college wide Meet and Greet on Monday. Many of you spent time sharing the BCC story with team members throughout the various interviews and Open Forums this week. Our BCC Pride is strong and the Exit Interview confirmed what we already knew, BCC meets all of the standards of accreditation!

The accreditation process fosters institutional self-reflection, which often includes areas for continuous improvement. While BCC successfully met all 127 standards and 21 eligibility requirements, the team noted two recommendations for improvement. Those recommendations include: (1) ongoing work of assessing and disaggregating our outcomes and (2) the completion of a formal evaluation of our governance and processes. In true BCC fashion, we will come together as a community to establish a plan for addressing these recommendations over the next few months. As part of a multi-college district, our accreditation process includes an evaluation of the district’s ability to demonstrate how it meets the standards. Our team exit report indicated that there were areas of recommendation for the district, of which we will come to learn more about in the coming weeks.

The College received two commendations for our exemplary work and service to students. The first commendation is related to our active commitment to the mission, vision, values of the college and our work to be a “Student Centered” institution, especially during the transition to a virtual environment during the health pandemic. The BCC Live Chat program, staffed by Student Ambassadors in the Student Activities & Campus Life department is recognized with this commendation. The second commendation is also described as meeting our mission, vision, and values by exhibiting the integration of our academic pathways/curriculum and the student support systems which lead to our exemplary Transfer Completion Outcomes. Congratulations to the BCC community in these commendations for exemplary work!

It was an honor to welcome colleagues from across the system to be a part of our BCC family. Team members shared how impactful it was to hear testimonials from students, classified professionals, and faculty about how BCC has made a difference in their lives. Your contributions in every way over the past two years matter. YOU helped make this successful visit possible. We are so appreciative of our colleagues on the BCC Accreditation team, led by Vice President of Instruction and Accreditation Liaison Officer, Kuni Hay, for their tireless efforts to guide the College. Our BCC Pride was on full display and the community was ready to “Know It! Show It!”

Have a great weekend!
