Supporting LGBTQ+ Students and Community

At Berkeley City College, we believe every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and empowered to be their authentic selves. We are committed to providing an environment where LGBTQ+ students can experience a deep sense of belonging.

You are seen. You are heard. You matter.

We stand firm in our commitment to creating an inclusive campus where all students—regardless of gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation—are celebrated and supported. No student should have to face their journey alone, and at Berkeley City College, you won’t. Whether you are out and proud, still exploring your identity, or seeking a community that understands you, we are here to affirm your place within our college family.

We are actively expanding resources, programming, and opportunities for connection. This semester, we will be hosting LGBTQ+ affinity spaces, educational workshops, guest speakers, and social events designed to uplift and support you. We are here to provide guidance, advocacy, and a space where you can simply be yourself. We encourage every student to get involved, whether through leadership, peer mentorship, or simply showing up to support one another.

Next month, Berkeley City College will be hosting a watch party for the 2025 California Community College LGBTQ+ Summit. This summit offers an opportunity for campuses across the state to vocalize, strategize, and share knowledge about how to create thriving, diverse, and supportive communities for LGBTQ+ students. We will be sharing further information about how to get involved in future announcements.

While it can be difficult to navigate a world that may not always feel welcoming, know that at BCC, we will do everything in our power to protect your rights and safety. Title IX protections extend to all students, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+. Discrimination, harassment, and hate have no place on our campus. We are committed to taking action against any form of intolerance or injustice. If you ever feel unsafe, know that there are people and resources ready to stand with you and for you. Visit the LGBTQ+ Safe Zone webpage to find a resource guide to support you during your time at BCC.

We reaffirm our commitment to serving and protecting all members of our community, especially in the face of hate. While challenges may exist beyond our campus, we remain steadfast in our mission to be a place of acceptance, advocacy, and change. You are not alone—our entire college community stands beside you.

As we continue building a more inclusive and affirming environment, we encourage you to share your voice, engage in dialogue, and help shape the future of our campus. Together, we are stronger. Together, we will continue to foster a community that embraces, uplifts, and protects every individual.

With solidarity and unwavering support,
