BCC Library Campus Pick-Up Book Loan Protocol

Student Process

  • All students complete the BCC Library Book Requests form prior to picking up a book
  • Students will be contacted via email and are provided a day to receive their book at the front doors of the college building
  • Times to receive a book occur on Tuesdays between 10a.m. – 5p.m. and Thursday between 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Books are checked out for three weeks. Textbooks or books used in courses may be renewed if there is not another request for them. Books may be renewed by sending an email to library technician Allison Green at agreene@peralta.edu
  • There is a $5 fine for each week a book is past due. If a book is lost, damaged, or not returned by the end of the semester, there will be a charge for the book plus a processing fee
  • Students experiencing flu like symptoms, a cough, fever or loss of smell or taste, should stay home
  • Students are not permitted in the college building and must wear a mask and maintain a 6 foot distance when interacting with BCC staff while waiting outside of the building for their requested books
  • Students must present a student ID card or other form of picture identification
  • A proxy may pick up a book for a student. This should be arranged before picking up the book. The proxy should bring the student’s identification card who is being loaned the book

Returns

  • Books may be returned on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 12-7pm. Students are not permitted inside the building unless they are registered for a class so please wait for the security officer to come to the door.

Safety Precautions

We are taking the following steps to ensure the safety of students and staff:

  • Preliminary research suggests that the virus is not detectable on library materials after 96 hours
  • When we receive materials, they sit for 96 hours before being handled by staff
  • Staff is wearing face coverings, frequently washing hands, disinfecting surfaces and practicing social distancing
  • We are limiting the number of staff who handle the items you have requested

Staff Process

  • College staff must check in with security prior to beginning work and when leaving the building
  • All staff must wear a mask and maintain a 6 foot distance from colleagues and students while in the building and when distributing books
  • To the best of their ability staff will only interact with students through the front doors of the building or on the sidewalk 6 feet away from the front doors of the college building
  • Waiting line management must occur and be facilitated by the college staff
  • Blue tape has been placed outside of the building identifying 6 feet of distance
  • Two tables are placed in the college entrance and are used to distribute the books
  • Books are pre-staged and checked-out to students prior to distribution
  • For the purposes of book distribution, staff will limit their access to the other offices, classrooms and hallways on campus
