  • How does something as complex, beautiful, and functional as an eye develop?
  • What goes awry in the case of neurodegenerative diseases?
  • Can stem cells be applied in novel therapies to treat age-related macular degeneration?

These are the principal questions that drive Dr. Clegg’s human stem cell research. He is working on developing a stem cell-based therapy for age-related macular degeneration.

 

Dr. Clegg is a professor and co-director of the Center for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering Neuroscience Research Institute in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at UC Santa Barbara. He is a co-principal investigator of the California Project to Cure Blindness. Dr. Clegg is the recipient of the UCSB Distinguished Teaching Award, the UCSB Community Affairs Board Award, and the National Eye Institute Audacious Goals award.
