All Are Welcome at Berkeley City College

Rowena Tomaneng, President

Dr. Rowena Tomaneng, President

Dear Berkeley City College Community,

Berkeley City College (BCC) was founded on the premise that all are welcome to our learning community. This was true in 1974 when Vista College welcomed its first students and it is still true today. The foundations of our success as a center for learning originate in our diversity and in our respect for each other, our love of knowledge, education and collaboration, in our commitment to civic engagement and to social justice, and to lifelong learning for everyone.  All are welcome to join us and grow as we learn and thrive together.

As your President, I am inspired and find hope in the coming together of diverse communities and generations to voice their support of immigrant, migrant, refugee, and undocumented rights. Liberty and justice for all are core principles of both BCC and indeed our democracy. We know to some members of the BCC family, the events of this past weekend seem to run contrary to those core principles of our country. Rest assured that BCC will steadfastly uphold these values which guide our college community, even in these challenging times. I am available to discuss any of your concerns and answer any questions you might have via email at rtomaneng@peralta.edu. Please be on the look-out for BCC’s upcoming workshops that will provide legal information and services to immigrants, migrants, refugees, and undocumented people.

At Berkeley City College, we continue to say,

“Welcome.” أهلا بك , Bienvenido خوش آمدی

In community spirit,

Rowena
