Summer Counseling Hours

June 12th, 2009

In case you were wondering if the counseling hours have changed for the summer…they have.  To better serve all students that are wanting to speak to a counselor, Counseling has moved to a drop-in counseling basis.  You are now only able to meet with a counselor for 10-15 minutes at a time during these drop-in hours.

Monday’s 9-7

Tuesday’s 9-7

Wednesday’s 9-7

Thursday’s 9-7

Friday’s 9-5

welcome to counselingFor an appointment to go over a full educational plan, you will want to make an appointment with a counselor this fall.  You can schedule an appointment by calling the counseling center at (510) 981-5036.  Or, if you know your counselors direct line, you can make an appointment that way.

I hope everyone enjoys there summer and don’t procrastinate on seeing a counselor too long :-)

Summer School Registration In Full Effect

May 27th, 2009

Berkeley City College Summer School

Summer is here and registration time has begun.  Students are coming in to see counselors for clearances, matriculation holds and pre-requisites.  If you haven’t done so yet, register for summer and fall classes now before new incoming students do.

With the cost of attending universities being high, many students are looking to get their general education courses done this summer before returning back to their universities.  We expect summer school to be at capacity and funding from the state is going to be tight.  So be sure to take advantage of all the resources you can early.

To see a counselor, please stop by the counseling center on the second floor of Berkeley City College.  All counselors are on a drop-in basis.  Appointments will be taken in the fall only.  Summer is all drop-in counseling.

100_berkeley_logo

I wanted to remind everyone that Friday, March 6, 2009 is the deadline to petition for your Associates Degree and/ or Certificate.  This is important for those students who are preparing to finish all course work by the end of this Spring ’09 semester.  Here is an outline of the steps you should do to ensure your graduation and degree is complete:

  1. Pick up a blue Petition For An AA/AS Degree from from the Admissions and Records office.
  2. If you are completing a Certificate, pick up a yellow Petition For A Certificate form from the Admission and Records office.
  3. Fill out the student section of that form.
  4. Make an appointment with a counselor to review and drop off your petition.
  5. Upon completion of the petition in its entirety and having all requirements met, you will be walking with your other classmates recognizing your achievements after completing your AA/AS degree.

gradhatIf you have any questions about graduation, AA/AS degrees, Certificates, or petitioning to complete any one of these items, then come into the counseling center located on the second floor of BCC.  Counselors are available through walk in counseling session or via appointments.  If you are having trouble getting here during the week, we are open Saturday’s from 9-1.  If you have trouble coming in at all, feel free to call us at the front desk at (510) 981-5036.

You can always drop me a line here and I will respond as soon as I get a chance.

I wish all of you the best of luck and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t wait till the last minute to get your petitions in.  Come in early so we can take care of any class waivers, petitions, substitutions and the other things that may come up when completing your petition to graduate or for your certificate.
