INT. FRED'S LIVING ROOM
FRED TALKING ON PHONE
VOICE OF FRIEND
Hey, hey,
hey. Lets not go digging up the past.
All you
got ta do is show up, man.
You don’t
have to be perfect. Just be yourself.
Okay?
Trust me okay?
Okay, but myself hasn't worked yet.
VOICE OF FRIEND
I'll tell her 4 o'clock at the Roastary. She'll carry a red rose.
You'll be there, right?
FRED
Okay, Okay, I'll be there.
Fred hands up and looks at the clock.
The clock shows 2:30
He looks down at what he has on and realizes he has
to change clothes.
Looking over at his wardrobe he starts to fret not
knowing what to wear.
Fred
Shit?
He goes and knocks on roommates door. Denise answers
DENISE
Hey Freddie, what's up?
FRED
I've got a date in about an hour.
Bob said
she’s perfect. I don't know what to wear.
Think
you can help me?
Denise-smiling
Is it
caj or formal?
FRED
I don't know
Denise frowns
FRED
I guess
it causal, but I have got to look really good.
Bob said she's
perfect for me. All I got to do is be myself. (Fred rolls eyes)
DENISE
Okay,
okay, pick out the first thing you can think of
and we'll take a look at you and go from there.
And
relax. It'll be fine whatever you decide to wear. Okay?
Fred goes back to his room and starts trying on
clothes.
He goes back and forth to Denise's room getting reactions
and looking into the mirror. The clothes start piling up on
his bed. Finally,
after a series of changes he finds an outfit
He feels will work.
Denise confirms.
DENISE (under her breath)
You had that on before, didn't you?
FRED
What?
DENISE
That
looks nice too. They all looked
nice. What do you think?
FRED
I think
it’s okay. Yeah I think it will
work. Thanks!
He looks at his watch. The watch says 3:50.
FRED
Oh my god, I'm going to be late.
DENISE Well that won't look good (smiling). You'll be fine, you'll be fine.
He goes back to his room, camera stays with Denise,
and he yells
from his room to her, Denise reacts.
FRED
Oh my
god, I forgot shoes!
He comes racing back into Denise's room with a
Different shoe on each foot.
FRED
What do
ya think? This one? Or this one?
Fred turns sideways and shows one shoe, then the
other.
DENISE
Well!
FRED
Okay, okay.
Wait. Wait.
As he speaks he races out the room and comes back
With two different shoes on.
FRED
Okay,
this one? Or this one?
DENISE
The one on
the right foot. It looks fiii... I mean perfect. You'll be great.
(and as a joke)
don't forget to comb your hair.
Fred races out of her room back to his room, looks
in the mirror and then
Out the hallway toward the exit stairs.
Denise sticks her head out of her door to wish Fred
luck.
DENISE
Have a
great time. You'll do great.
She looks down.
DENISE
Fred, Fred, wait a minute...oy.
Fred disappears out the door.
EXT. SIDEWALK/STREET
Fred is walking down street to the tune of "Staying Alive." Camera shoots him
from front just above his shoes.
Rev angle of Fred from behind walks into a long
shot. We see Fred's back and
a girl with a red rose sitting at a table.
She smiles and looks down in his direction and a big
grin appears upon her face.
Fred looks down at his feet and realized he has two
different color shoes on.
His head drops, his face droops.
As he looks up like a wounded puppy, she steps out
from behind the table
Revealing she has two different colored shoes or
socks on too.
Fred tilts his head and with a bemused look, looks
into the camera.
CUT TO BLACK
CREDITS
While credits are rolling, dialogue between the two
ensures.
