Presentation on “The Cost of Injustice — Oakland to Ferguson” – Wed., Oct. 15 at 6:30 pm, BCC auditorium

The Global Studies Club is hosting an event entitled: “The Cost of Injustice — Oakland to Ferguson”. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th at 6:30 PM in the BCC auditorium at 2050 Center Street.


A student will welcome the audience and introduce the speaker, Cephus Johnson, uncle of Oscar Grant. He recently went to Ferguson after the death of Michael Brown. He will speak for about 30 minutes about what happened to Oscar, the issues of police brutality and his experiences relating to other families around the country who have lost their children to police violence. Then we will open it up for questions and comments from the audience.

Daniel Ellsberg speaking at podiumPlease join the BCC Global Studies Program in welcoming A Talk by Daniel Ellsberg on “Manning, Snowden, Syria and the U.S. Constitution”. The talk will take place in the Berkeley City College Auditorium, 2050 Center Street, downtown Berkeley.

By publishing The Pentagon Papers in 1971, Ellsberg revealed the lies the U.S. government had told to justify the war against Vietnam. Ellsberg’s revelations played an important role in helping to end that war.


In December 2006 Ellsberg was awarded the 2006 Right Livelihood Award “for putting peace and truth first, at considerable personal risk, and dedicating his life to inspiring others to follow his example.”


Since the end of the Vietnam War, Ellsberg has been a lecturer, writer and activist on the dangers of the nuclear era, wrongful U.S. interventions and the urgent need for patriotic whistleblowing.
