Berkeley City College in Berkeley, California, has developed a partnership with Institute of International Education (IIE), the U.S. Department of State, and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). Together, we have established a “Fulbright Gateway in Berkeley (FULBRIGHT AT BCC).” The Fulbright Gateway Orientation Program will be conducted in Berkeley, California, in summer of 2012.
Through this Gateway Orientation (8/12/12 – 8/16/12), Fulbright at BCC will provide information to approximately 60 international Fulbright student grant recipients. These participants, from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, may be thoroughly unfamiliar with U.S. culture, or while conversant in many aspects of U.S. culture, may be unaware of the subtler aspects of U.S. academic procedures.
All participants will arrive with strong academic credentials and will already have secured academic admission to U.S. institutions for advanced study. Their fields of study will range from the humanities to business and the social sciences, to the sciences and technology. The three-day Gateway Orientation will provide participants with some of the information necessary to ease their transition into the world of U.S. graduate study.
