LifeLong Berkeley Primary Care Health Center Opens at Berkeley City College

Lifelong Berkeley Primary Care Health Center has opened at Berkeley City College in Rm. 122.

Where: Berkeley City College (2050 Center St), Room 122. Clinic room located on the 1st floor. Follow the signs.

When:

Mondays: 4-8 pm. Drop-in hours are 4-6 PM. Appointments are 6-7:45 PM. Please call 510-684-2634 to schedule.

New Hours: Tuesdays: 1-3pm. Drop-in and appointments available

Who we are: LifeLong Medical Care is a non-profit community health center that provides high-quality healthcare for all individuals including those with limited income, as well as those who face significant barriers to attaining better health, with a positive, caring environment.

Our services: The LifeLong Berkeley Primary Care Wellness Clinic provides primary care services and family planning/reproductive health services at no-cost for teens, young adults, and adults. Priority given to Peralta students. Some of our services include:

· physical exams (for sports, work, volunteering, etc)

· sexual health (birth control, Plan B prescriptions, pap smears)

· sexually transmitted infection screenings

· health education

· routine health screening (blood pressure, temperature, etc)

In addition to health services, patients can be screened to receive healthcare coverage, including free family planning services. All registered patients are eligible to receive services at our main Berkeley Primary Care located just blocks away. These patients may also be transferred to other LifeLong Medical Care clinics.

BCC’s Marilia Lobo Wins First Place in the Inspire Berkeley 2013 Contest held by the Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center

Berkeley City College multimedia arts student Marilia Lobo’s digital arts design is a winner in Inspire Oakland, a collaborative billboard design contest sponsored by Oakland Digital (ODALC). The contest is co-sponsored by the City of Oakland, CBS Outdoor, Améredia, Oaklandish, Cal State East Bay and the Peralta Colleges. Lobos, a student in Michel Bohbot’s Survey of Digital Imaging (MMART 130) class, will see her design appear on University Ave. in Berkeley.
”For my billboard art I tried to embrace all the elements that represent Berkeley to me; the bear is the California symbol, and also it’s the UC Berkeley mascot, he is with a megaphone because UC Berkeley was the stage where very important movements such as women rights and free speech took place in the 60’s. The background’s boldness is to represent the present and retro kind of look for the past. It is colorful, because I have never seen a place that holds so much diversity in a positive way as Berkeley has. Berkeley is a colorful, creative and engaged melting pot; people who live there tend to make the difference in the society. I’m studying animation (at Berkeley City College), but I graduated in Industrial Design, Visual Programming in Brazil, and I would be sooooo happy to get an internship with ODALC!”

Each year, Oakland Digital invites local community members to participate in “Inspire Oakland,” a contest which encourages interest in graphic design and information technologies through creative expression. Project’s goal is to promote a positive image of Oakland that unites and inspires its diverse population, while encouraging young talent to jumpstart their digital media careers.

BCC’s Kaylin Warren Wins Second Place in the Inspire Berkeley 2013 Contest Sponsored by the ODLAC

Kaylin Warren, also a BCC Multimedia Arts student, won second place in Inspire Berkeley 2013, a collaborative billboard design contest sponsored by Oakland Digital (ODALC). The contest is co-sponsored by the City of Oakland, CBS Outdoor, Améredia, Oaklandish, Cal State East Bay and the Peralta Colleges.

Warren’s billboard inspiration was the downtown Berkeley BART station. “I remember when I first started going to Berkeley City College, that first time I came up that escalator and stood in that circle, I did a full 360 turn just so I could soak everything in,” she recalled. “You know that any time you come to Berkeley there’s going to be an adventure because of the many possibilities and things that it has to offer.” The artist used cool tones and colors to represent Berkeley’s “chilled, laid back” atmosphere. She also thought that the BART station represented Berkeley residents’ affinity for using public transportation.

“I used layered textures to give it a mystical, magical feel because e Berkeley is like my own Diagon Alley (Harry Potter); it has so many hidden treasures and hideaways you never know what you’re going to find,” Warren explained. “It’s hard to put in words but Berkeley is something that you have to experience yourself because that’s just what it is, an experience. Just don’t forget to wear your walking shoes… ”

Multimedia Arts Student Showcase: Animation and Live Action Films, Fri. May 10, 6 – 8 PM, BCC Auditorium

Please join us on Friday, May 10th, 6-8pm in the auditorium at Berkeley City College for this year’s Multimedia Arts Student Showcase, featuring animation and live action films from our students. Doors open at 5:30. Berkeley City College is located at 2050 Center Street, downtown Berkeley, a half block from the Berkeley BART Station. BCC is wheelchair accessible.

Moodle and the BCC Website are not affected by the PASSPORT/PeopleSoft upgrade. Moodle and the BCC Website will be available during the upgrade.

The Peralta Colleges are in the process of upgrading our computer information systems. All online services associated with this PeopleSoft upgrade will be unavailable from 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15 until 3:00 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2013.

Passport, PROMT, Admissions & Records services, Counseling computer functions, and all payment systems will be unavailable. This upgrade to PeopleSoft version 9.0 is the first since 2005 and is necessary to improve our information services, allow the installation of new modules and make your experience easier and more efficient.
