Where can I use a computer or get study help at BCC?

30 August 2011

Computer Lab

The computer lab in Room 125 will be open starting Monday, August 29th.  It will be open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 to 6:00 and Friday 10:00-3:00. We are working on having evening hours at least a couple of nights a week; stay tuned.

English

The English writing workshops (Eng 258 and 208) emphasize providing support to help you respond to assignments from any class appropriately, organize and develop your ideas, write precisely and clearly and edit your own work. Workshops start three weeks and five weeks after the beginning of the semester. Contact Jenny Lowood, department chair, at jlowood@pacbell.net for more information.

English as a Second Language

ESL has workshops that serve the needs of English learners (ESL 218).  The department also hosts special one-session workshops on a variety of topics. Ask your ESL teacher for more information or contact lbrion@peralta.edu.

Library

Located in Room 131 on the first floor, the Susan A. Duncan Library has computers, tables, and chairs for studying, books to check out, and data bases for reference either in the library or remotely. The reference librarian can also help you compile a list of references for research papers. Many textbooks are on reserve in the library.

The Jerry L. Adams Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The Jerry L. Adams Learning Resource Center is located in Room 112.  It has workshops, tutors, and study groups. Many instructors hold their office hours here to help students with a variety of subjects. Check the center for times.
Math
Two full-time math tutors and several math instructors have appointment times in the LRC. Check the center for appointment times.

Mentoring

Email estheraida@comcast.net for information on being a mentor or being mentored by another student.

Programs and Services for Students with Disabilities (PSSD)

Check with Lynn Massey in room 261 to find extra note taking, interpreting, Braille, and other services.

Other Tutoring

Many departments such as American Sign Language, Science, and Spanish have special tutoring, study groups, and open-lab hours.  Some of these teachers also have office hours in the LRC.  Ask your teachers and check the LRC (Room 112).

More Information

Pick up a “Need Help” brochure on the information desk, the fourth floor reception desk, Room 112, or the TRC.  The brochure has other resources, both on campus and on the Internet.
