Spring 2011 CIS Courses

The Computer Information Systems Department offers a variety of classes in Spring 2011 to fit your schedule and educational advancement. Our full-semester courses provide a solid background in computer information systems leading to basic programming, such as:

  • CIS 1 Intro to Computer Information Systems (including a PACE section as part of BCC’s Online Transfer College), 3 sections beginning 1/24/11 or 1/25/11
  • CIS 5 Intro to Computer Science, beginning 1/24/11, 8:30 – 11:45 am
  • CIS 6 Intro to Computer Programming, beginning 1/24/11, 2:00 – 5:15 pm


More in-depth, full-semester computer programming skills are learned in:

  • CIS 36A Java Programming I, beginning 1/24/11, MW 6:30 – 9:20 pm
  • CIS 47 Visual Basic Programming, beginning 1/25/11, T 6:30 – 8:50 pm (Hybrid Online Transfer College Class)


Short-term classes are offered as 4-week or 8-week courses during the first session or second session of the Spring 2011 semester.

  • CIS 200 Computer Concepts and Applications is an 8-week course taught in both first and second sessions of the semester; intro to computer terminology, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation graphics, and the Internet:
    • 1/24 – 3/16/11, MW 9 am – Noon
    • 3/21 – 5/18/11, MW 6-9 pm
  • CIS 230 Laboratory Practice in Microcomputers in which students expand their computer skills in self-developed and self-paced programs under the direction of the instructor:
    • 1/26 – 3/16/11, W 9 am – Noon
    • 3/21 – 5/16/11, M 6:30 – 9:20 pm
  • CIS 231 Advanced Lab Projects (see instructor to enroll):
    • 3/21 – 5/16/11, M 6:30 – 9:20 pm


Specialty skills courses include:

  • CIS 105 Mechanics of Web Page Design (4 Saturdays, 1-5 pm: 4/30, 5/7, 5/14, and 5/21/11)
  • CIS 237 Intro to Internet Basics (4 Saturdays, 1-5 pm: 3/26, 4/2, 4/9, and 4/16/11)
  • CIS 245A Intro to Microsoft Access (4 Fridays, 1-5 pm: 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, and 4/8/11)
  • CIS 246 Intro to PowerPoint (4 Saturdays 1-5 pm: 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, and 3/19/11)
