Berkeley City College received a $2.4 million award from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to support student internships in laboratories conducting research in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Each year between 8-10 students are awarded 10 month paid internships to work in research and pharmaceutical laboratories. The institutions can be either academic or industrial.

Application Requirements

  1. Enrollment in one of BCC Biotechnology programs: A.S. degree in Biotechnology or the Certificate in Biotechnology.
  2. Completion of Scientific Instrumentation: Bio 50A (offered in the fall) and Bio 50B (offered in the spring).
  3. Completion of at least one of the following courses at BCC: Bio 34 (Molecular Genetics; offered in the fall) and Bio 33 (Applied Immunology; offered in the spring)
  4. Completion of courses in chemistry (inorganic and organic), biology, microbiology, physics, mathematics, CIS and English.
